A CARE service which supports adults with brain injuries has stepped up to support a children’s charity this festive season.
Cygnet Pindar House, on Upper Sheffield Road, signed up to take part in the ‘Giving Tree’ initiative, which is a festive campaign run by KidsOut, a charity that supports disadvantaged and vulnerable children living in refuges in the UK.
The campaign encourages people to buy a toy for a child fleeing domestic abuse.
Tania Rudd, occupational therapist at Cygnet Pindar House, praised her team for their efforts.
She said: “It has been heart-warming to take part in the Giving Tree again this year.
“The kindness and generosity of our team is amazing and I am so grateful to all who participated.
“For many of us, Christmas means a safe place and being surrounded by family, however, this is not the reality for everyone - especially for children and young people in refuge.
“As a team we didn’t want to forget this and wanted to give back to such an amazing charity.”
The Cygnet Health Care team decided to move beyond the traditional office ‘Secret Santa’ and for the past two years have instead purchased toys for children in local refuge homes.
Tania added: “Our team feel strongly that there is far more satisfaction in giving to people truly in need than in exchanging novelty gifts.
“KidsOut is a charity that provides a perfect way to shift focus to the true meaning of Christmas.
“It really feels like we have been able to make a difference to the lives of children and young people living in refuge this Christmas.”
