BARNSLEY Round Table has made a £2,000 donation, on behalf of Danny Malin, to his chosen charity.
The Proud of Barnsley winners teamed up with YouTube sensation Danny to support Barnsley Foodbank at one of the most difficult times of the year.
Danny’s friend and local hero, Callum Simpson, has been a huge advocate for the foodbank and the work they do and Danny was keen to support.
“To be asked to light the bonfire in Barnsley was a huge honour for me and being able to give back to the community from where I grew up is amazing,” Danny said.
“My good friend Callum has done some amazing work with Barnsley Foodbank and knowing how families suffer this time of year, there was no doubt in my mind where I wanted the donation to go.
“Thank you to Barnsley Round Table but most of all thank you people of Barnsley.”
Barnsley Round Table chairman Jonny Brown added: “We were delighted to be able to welcome Danny to the bonfire, where he gave his time to do a meet and greet with fans, and stopped to chat with everyone.
“When Danny nominated the foodbank as his chosen charity to support, we were delighted.
“We have talked to the amazing staff who work there and learned about the vital role they play in our community.
“The Christmas period sees a huge increase in operating costs for the foodbank, as they rise to the challenge of meeting increasing need.
“This winter, families across Barnsley are facing hunger, eviction, and overwhelming debt.
“Barnsley Foodbank Partnership stands squarely in the gap, offering food, help with life’s problems and above all else, compassion and hope.
“They currently have a winter appeal, which you can support by visiting www.justgiving.com/campaign/barnsleyfoodbankwinter.”
