CARE leavers have enjoyed a tech-boost initiative that will help in shape their futures.
Following a session where the council listened the views of youngsters - they are now donating pre-loved technology to kick-start the futures of local care leavers up to age 25.
The council created the initiative as part of their corporate parenting commitments - which will see 100 laptops and 30 mobile phones being donated.
The donated items, which are no longer being used in council offices, have been securely wiped and given a new lease of life through the scheme.
The council hopes to keep the young care leavers ‘connected and supported’ as they take their next steps.
It comes as part of their Great Childhoods Ambition programme, aiming to give youngsters the best possible start in life.
Councillor Ashley Peace, cabinet spokesperson for children’s services, said: “This initiative is a clear demonstration of corporate parenting in action - listening to our young people, responding to their needs and delivering real solutions that empower them for the future.
“It reflects our commitment to giving care leavers the strongest possible foundation for adult life - ensuring they feel safe and empowered to reach their ambitions and I’m sure this will make a real difference to their lives.”
