A THURNSCOE man who was caught drink-driving while having a child in his car has been handed a ban.

David Martin, 28, was caught by officers on May 29 swerving across the road in Goldthorpe.

Suspecting the driver was under the influence, the officer brought the car to a stop on Barnsley Road and as they opened the door and Martin was seen trying to hide a can of beer that was in the car with him.

Martin also had a child in the car with him.

The officer breathalysed Martin, who blew 68, with the legal limit being 35.

Sergeant Brandon Brown said: “Drink-driving is a reckless and dangerous act that puts innocent lives at risk, and what was made worse by this incident, is that Martin decided to risk an innocent child’s life in his care.

“Anyone who chooses to get behind the wheel while impaired is selfish, and your actions will not be tolerated.

“We remain committed to taking action to keep our roads and communities safe.
