POLICE have issued an urgent warning for residents to be wary of dogs after a Barnsley woman required plastic surgery following a Boxing Day attack.
Officers responded to an emergency call just before 3am and found a woman who had been bitten on her face by a German shepherd cross.
The dog involved in the incidents has since been seized.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are urging you to act - gatherings in your home, new toys, loud noises and the excitement from children can be overwhelming for dogs.
“These can cause them stress or to act in a manner that wouldn’t usually be their character.
“Any dog has the ability to bite, cause injury or fear - do not think it won’t happen to you or in your home.”
