WORK is ongoing in order to better protect the council from the threat of a cyber attack.

At next week’s audit and governance meeting, councillors will discuss the processes which have been put in place in recent months.

According to a report, the local authority has worked with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).

It added: “Local authorities and the public sector generally are under a constant and increasing threat from cyber attacks by individuals and organised crime groups.

“It is management’s responsibility to ensure they and their staff are able to spot a cyber-based attack and highlight where any concerns exist in relation to vulnerabilities.

“IT services will need to provide timely and relevant training and awareness in relation to cyber threats as well as maintaining the necessary technical security measures.

“Work is ongoing and good feedback has been received from work with the MHCLG.

“This model will be rolled out across all systems.”
