Barnsley striker David McGoldrick has won League One Player of the Month for February.

The striker netted six times in six games last month, including a hat-trick in a win at Leyton Orient.

He said: “I’m really proud to receive this award. February was a great month for me personally, but it only happens because of the lads around me and the way we’ve been playing as a group. At this stage of my career, I just try to give everything I’ve got every time I step on the pitch, so to see that recognised means a lot. Hopefully I can keep contributing and help drive us forward for the rest of the season.”

Head coach Conor Hourihane added: “David fully deserves this recognition. He’s been outstanding throughout February – not just with his goals and performances, but with the experience and leadership he brings to the group every single day. This is the sort of example the rest of the squad needs to see; that at his age, to be performing how he is should inspire others around him.”
