Barnsley conceded a 94th-minute leveller in a 2-2 draw at Mansfield Town, having been 2-0 up.

David McGoldrick opened the scoring then Scott Banks added another just after half-time but Mansfield replied with a penalty then levelled in injury-time.

The Reds are 12th, seven points off the play-off places.

Conor Hourihane made one change to the team that drew with Cardiff in midweek as Patrick Kelly returned from injury to replace the benched Jono Bland.

Barnsley nearly took the lead in the eighth minute when Vimal Yoganathan hit the top of the right post with a fine strike from outside the box.

Mansfield almost took the lead on 15 minutes when, after a scramble in the box following a long throw, Fraser Blake-Tracy’s close-range shot was well saved by Owen Goodman diving to his right. The goalkeeper also pushed away a long-range effort by Rhys Oates who had beaten Mael de Gevigney.

The opener arrived on 19 minutes when, after a Kelly cross from the left was nudged cleverly into his path by Tom Bradshaw, McGoldrick found the bottom right corner with a superb strike from just outside the box.

It was almost 2-0 soon after when Eoghan O’Connell surged out of defence and slipped in Scott Banks whose shot was saved by Liam Roberts then Bradshaw looked likely to tap in but Deji Oshilaja tackled him a few yards out. De Gevigney headed wide from the resulting Corey O’Keeffe corner.

The Reds’ second goal arrived four minutes after the break when Yoganathan brought down a long pass and found Kelly who slipped in Banks on the left and his powerful shot went through the hands of Roberts. McGoldrick then shot wide of the bottom left corner from 20 yards.

Mansfield were awarded a penalty when Banks apparently fouled Nathan Moriah-Welsh who had just come on. Lucas Akins scored from the spot on 57 minutes.

Barnsley appealed for a penalty after McGoldrick was felled in the box but the referee did not give it.

Moriah-Welsh’s shot from close-range from an Elliott Hewitt cross was goal bound but hit his own team-mate Will Evans who then shot just wide on the turn minutes later.
