A WREATH-LAYING service in memory of two miners ho died on the picket lines took place last weekend.
David Jones died on March 15, 1984 aged 24 and Joe Green was also killed on the picket line on June 15, 1984 aged 55.
A remembrance service was held at the NUM building on Huddersfield Road on Saturday.
Wreaths were laid by Barnsley’s three MPs - Dan Jarvis, Stephanie Peacock and Marie Tidball.
Ms Peacock said: “On Saturday I laid a wreath at the NUM in Barnsley as we gathered to remember David Jones and Joe Green who lost their lives on the picket line.
“Every year a memorial lecture takes place to remember them and all those who fought to defend their industry in the 1984/85 strike.”
Ms Tidball added: “On the 42nd anniversary of the deaths of Joe Green and David Jones, it was an honour to lay a wreath on behalf of our Penistone and Stocksbridge constituency, at the National Union of Mineworkers headquarters in Barnsley.
“The sun shone and their light shines on; in remembering them, they spur us on to work harder and do even more for the miners they left behind, their remaining friends and comrades.
“My thanks to Chris Kitchen, Chris Skidmore and all the NUM staff for all their hard work in organising the memorial today.”
