SIX councillors with a combined 79 years’ experience in the town hall will not be seeking re-election in May.

At the local elections later this year, all 63 seats in Barnsley’s 21 wards will be contested.

However six current councillors have decided they will not seek re-election.

Dearne North councillor Abi Moore has served on the council since 2023, while Coun Steve Hunt began his councillor service in 2019.

Coun Trevor Smith, who has served as a councillor on a number of occasions for different parties, will also step down.

As will Couns Kath Mitchell and Steve Green who have served on the council for a combined 30 years.

Coun Alice Cave, who represents the Darton West ward, has been a councillor since 1998.
