AN industrious teenager is already making her mark as a young apprentice to watch out for.
Olivia Jessop, 18, is a proud HR apprentice for Barnsley Hospital in the final stretch of the scheme, finishing in June.
Every day is different for the Wilthorpe youngster, who plays a key part in inducting new apprentices and work experience students and already taking on responsibilities for the trust’s wellbeing team.
The sensitive nature of a HR role means that it’s not suitable for just anyone, but Olivia has taken to her new duties like a duck to water.
Showing impressive levels of empathy and communication skills, the young apprentice’s growing skills foreshadow her bright future.
Life hasn’t always been easy-going for Olivia, with her school days proving to be challenging.
She said: “I love working at the trust.
“I started at 16 years old, after leaving school, where I didn’t have the best experience.
“Since I’ve got used to working here, it’s way different to how school was and I really enjoy it.”
Sharon Botham, Barnsley Hospital’s training and engagement manager, had nothing but praise for Olivia, calling her a ‘champion’ for the trust.
She added: “From the very start of her apprenticeship, she has consistently gone above and beyond her training requirements, making a meaningful contribution to both the HR team and the wider organisation.
“She has also demonstrated a high level of professionalism and trustworthiness through completing minute-taking for sensitive HR meetings.
“She handles confidential information with care and maturity beyond her level of experience.
“Her communication skills are excellent; she is approachable, quick-witted and always positive, which makes her a pleasure to work with and a strong ambassador for both HR and apprenticeships.
“Throughout her apprenticeship, she has shown a genuine willingness to learn, consistently putting her learning into practice and actively developing her skills.
“She approaches her role with enthusiasm, compassion and a can-do attitude, always with a smile on her face, and is highly organised and reliable.
“This apprenticeship has clearly had a positive impact on her confidence, professional development and sense of purpose.
“In turn, she has had a significant impact on her team and the wider organisation.
“She is a true champion for her role, her organisation and for apprenticeships, and is a shining example of the bright future of our workforce.
“I believe she is an outstanding candidate for Young Champions and thoroughly deserves recognition for her commitment, professionalism and positive impact.”
