WORSBROUGH Bridge will look to finish off a history-making season with promotion when they play in the NCEL play-offs from this weekend.
They finished second in Division One, with a club record 95 points and will now host Leeds UFCA on Saturday in the play-off semi-final.
If they win, they will host either Wakefield or Harrogate Railway in the final the following Saturday for a place in the Premier Division.
Worsbrough have been in the league since it was formed in 1982 but have never reached the play-offs.
Worsbrough also have the Sheffield FA Cup final against National League North side Worksop Town at Doncaster Rovers’ ground on Tuesday, April 28.
Manager Lee Morris said: “It’s been a very long and very good season. Anything we achieve now is a bonus but we have fought too hard and too long to let it peter out at the last minute.
“We’ve broken a lot of records but we really want to finish it off.
“I think the lads deserve some silverware and so do all the volunteers.
“People have been involved a lot longer than me and the players.
“To have more than 40 years at the same level and not really have a chance of getting out off it shows what a massive achievement it is and what a big opportunity we have.
“We beat Penistone in the Charity Cup in pre-season and I told the players it wouldn’t be the first trophy we lift this season.
“We’ve basically got three cup finals and we’ll try to get promoted and win the Sheffield Cup.”
Bridge have set an ambitious target to get a crowd of 1,000 for the semi-final.
Morris said: “It will be a great occasion. Barnsley have an early kick-off so it might allow some fans to go straight to our game afterwards.
“We did the double over them in the league and lost on penalties against them in a cup game.
“But a play-off game is a one-off and we have to be at our very best. They are on a great run of form.”
Bridge won 3-0 at home to bottom club Glasshoughton Welfare on Saturday.
Akram Lasalire, Harrison Marvin and Jake Squires scored.
They then won 3-0 at Appleby Frodingham on Tuesday.
Isaac Jeffreys, Keelan Grist and Ousmane Sidibe got the goals.
They finished 15 points behind champions Dearne and District who took the only automatic promotion place.
Morris said: “Our season has been remarkable and incredible and testament to the lads and the club.
“95 points is some achievement. We are up against clubs who are spending a lot more than us so to finish second is fantastic. It’s taken a record-breaking season to beat us to the title. Sometimes you have to say the opposition have had an amazing season. Hats off to Dearne, another local club. Hopefully we will join them in the Premier.”
Dearne and District completed their season with a 4-0 win at Crowle Colts.
Joshua Dacre, Cian Guest, twice, and Adam Baskerville scored.
It was a 17th straight win for Dearne who finished on 110 points which is thought to be a league record.
They won 36 of 42 games, scoring the most goals in the division with 128 and conceding the fewest with 32.
Athersley Rec lost 3-0 at home to Brigg Town in their final game of the season.
They finished a place and six points clear of the relegation zone.
