A BARNSLEY Hospital porter has raised more than £3,500 for charity after taking on a series of creative fundraising challenges over the past three years.
Luke Callaghan has completed nine fundraising events since 2023, raising a total of £3,563 to support patients, staff and services across the hospital.
Luke’s fundraising efforts for the Barnsley Hospital Charity have included a fire walk, multiple skydives, sponsored runs, a Lego walk, a shark dive and, most recently, a wing walk.
Several of his latest challenges in 2026 are still raising money, meaning his total is set to continue rising.
Jane Mills, charity development manager, said: “We are incredibly proud of Luke and delighted that he has been shortlisted in the hospital’s Heart Awards which recognises staff and volunteers at an annual event in May.
“Over the past year, Luke has shown extraordinary courage and commitment in support of Barnsley Hospital Charity and the patients we serve.
“What makes Luke’s journey even more inspiring is his personal transformation.
“A few years ago, he was quiet and shy - today, he stands as one of our most passionate and visible ambassadors.
“He takes on every challenge with determination and always with a smile on his face.
“His bravery, selflessness and tireless commitment make him a true hospital hero.”
