Former Barnsley coach Tonda Eckert finds himself at the centre of one of the most remarkable footballing scandals in recent memory.
The German is currently head coach of Southampton who were removed from Saturday’s Championship play-off final after admitting spying on semi-final opponents Middlesbrough, and doing the same in two other games this season.
Boro lost to Saints but have been reinstated to play Hull at Wembley, although Southampton reportedly are appealing.
Eckert was at Barnsley from 2020 to 2022, working under Gerhard Struber, Valerien Ismael, Markus Schopp and Poya Asbaghi. He retuned to England to work under Will Still at Southampton last summer then took over as head coach, leading them into the top six and the FA Cup semi-final.
It has been reported that he could face a ban from football.
