Two Barnsley girls have been chosen to take part in the British figure skating championships 18 months after taking up the sport.
Katelan Bellamy, ten, and sister Ellie, eight, of Carnforth Road, Monk Bretton, have been chosen as 'flower girls' for the championships at iceSheffield this week.
This means they will pick up flowers and other gifts thrown from the crowd and are chosen in a similar way to ball boys and girls at Wimbledon.
But the girls will also take part as skaters in Sheffield's 'Cirque de Noël' in December after sufficiently impressing its organisers with their progress.
Mum Tracey, 32, said the girls had naturally taken to the sport - making the £110 cost for dresses very much worth it.
She said: "They got hooked watching Dancing on Ice and had been asking for a bit if they could do it. A place came up in April last year and they absolutely loved it.
"They were doing so well the teachers asked if they would like to join the development stage of the course and take part in the Christmas show. Katelan will be competing soon, too, as she's only got the dance module left before that."
