BARNSLEY Woolley Miners have won six straight matches in all competitions and eight out of nine this season but now visit leaders Ackworth in a top of the table clash.

The Shaw Laners are second in the SYL Championship, ten points clear in the two promotion places and four behind Ackworth.

Captain Boeta Beukes said: “It’s another big one.

“Ackworth nearly got promoted last season. They will be strong opponents and it should be a good game.

“We have them in two cups as well in the next few weeks.

“They have good players and so do we so it’s who turns up on the day.

“We never get too excited too quickly. But it would be nice to win and go top.”

Barnsley chased 220 for a two-wicket home win over Oughtibridge off the final ball.

Ali Zaryab continued his superb form with 107 including nine fours and three sixes but was out in the 48th over then Barnsley’s tailenders saw them home.

The Shaw Laners needed three to win from the final ball and Harvey Round hit it for six. Zarmash Tarakhil had taken three wickets.

Beukes said: “It’s great to win a game on the last ball. Harvey has had a lot of time out through injury so it was nice for him to have a moment like that. A couple of teams around us lost as well.”

“Will Chapman batted well then Ali batted sublimely in the second game. Harvey bowled well too.”

Beukes said: “It helps when you have a good overseas. He’s batting amazingly.

“Everyone else is just chipping in.

“One day, if he doesn’t do anything, someone else will have to step up.”
