A YOUNG Champions finalist’s caring attitude has seen her ‘absolutely smash’ yet another charity fundraiser.
Seven-year-old Eliza Rushforth is known for her kind heart that goes far beyond her years, inspiring everyone who followed her journey of donating Christmas gifts bought with her own money in order to bring a smile to the faces of poorly children at Barnsley Hospital.
The youngster’s touching mission to help others received praise from Barnsley Hospital Charity’s Charity Development Manager, Jane Mills.
She said: “Eliza’s incredible generosity truly touched us all.
“To see someone so young choose to give up her own Christmas money to support children in hospital is simply inspiring.”
Eliza has taken her passion for helping others to a new level, lacing up her walking boots to complete the 62 miles in March challenge, held by the charity, Bliss.
Created to support premature and ill babies, Bliss created the challenge to inspire empathetic youngsters like Eliza to get involved in fundraising with a manageable two miles a day.
Eliza has taken a leaf out of her mum Cherie’s book, with the mother and daughter duo often going out of their way to do good deeds for others.
Cherie spoke on Eliza’s fundraising efforts, extolling her daughter’s generosity and resilience.
She said: “It came out of nowhere, she’s really kind-hearted and aware of what’s around her.
“She had a nice Christmas, with lots of presents and she’s conscious that children in hospital maybe haven’t had the same experiences.
“We were watching TV and she said she wanted to use her Christmas money to donate toys for children in hospital.
“We contacted the hospital and they said they’d really like some crafts stuff and we went together to drop it all off.
“Eliza and I did 62 miles for Bliss, in March, which is in support of premature babies and she absolutely smashed it.
“She raised £280 for them and received a t-shirt and a medal.
“Eliza was premature herself, so it feels really nice to give back.
“When we go out, I try to do nice things with her, like giving food to homeless people.
“I’m really proud of her for doing such a kind thing.”
