BARNSLEY has officially crowned its new youth mayor - and for one local councillor the appointment is incredibly close to home.
In a first for the borough, 14-year-old Tamsin Brooke will be navigating the same corridors as her mum, Lib Dem councillor Leyla Nayeri.
And although her mum says she’ll be on hand to support her through it, Tamsin is keen to carve her own path as youth mayor.
Leyla told the Chronicle: “I’m really proud of her.
“It’s very much Tamsin’s role and it’ll be her ideas but if she ever needs support I’ll be there to offer it.
“It’s a non-political role.
“Her dream is to go down onto the West End eventually and live down in London so she’s not got any plans to follow in my footsteps.
“Her personality and nature is very caring and always wanting to support others and get the best out of them.
“This role will be an extension of that for her.”
