A TEENAGE musical duo are shooting for the stars and have enjoyed a place as Young Champions finalists along the way.
Two piece indie-rock band Day-dream is comprised of Aria Nasser and Arthur Calverley - who met by chance on their induction day at Penistone Grammar School.
The Cawthorne-based youngsters recently celebrated scooping second place at Horizon Community College’s Battle of the Bands.
Hot on the heels of their success, since then, Aria and Arthur have enjoyed playing gigs in pubs and bars across Barnsley.
The 14-year-olds can’t wait to turn their musical dreams into reality, hoping to turn their passion into a career.
Aria said: “We met in school and I was good friends with Arthur at the start of year seven because he was in my form.
“One day I saw him bring in a pair of drumsticks and he started tapping them on his bag.
“A month later, we joined the music ambassadors after-school club and started practising for Battle of the Bands together.
“The first song we ever practised together was American Idiot by Green Day.
“We got second place in the competition and people really enjoyed us playing.
“After that, we got some gigs around Barnsley and with our school as well, like the Christmas fair.
“During that time, we played at the Garrison and the Civic.
“When Barnsley Live came about we signed up to play and lots of people came to watch us.
“We filmed it and put the video on TikTok and that’s when we started to rise up on social media.
“The month after, we played PGS live for the school.
“Within our first year of being in the band together we played the main stage and were one of the headliners.
“PGS live is probably the best gig we’ve ever done, it was crazy, lots of people were singing along with us.
“We’ve got a gig coming up in July that we’re excited for.
Arthur added: “I just love playing and listening to music, it’s a good way of expressing myself.
“In the future, I want to go professional with Aria.”
The band are finalists in the Young Champions’s Entertainment Team bracket with the winner revealed tonight at the Metrodome.
