A WOMBWELL man is set to embark on a mammoth fundraise to raise cash for a men’s mental health charity when he cycles to Switzerland later this month.

Ryan McClean, 38, will be setting off with his uncle Darius, cousin Jake and friend Myles Thwaites on June 27 from Gilmorton as they aim to cycle the 844-mile journey to Grindelwald.

The charity cycle is due to cover three countries over nine days, with the first day going from Gilmorton to London.

On the second day the route will go into France, before moving into Switzerland on day six.

Once the group arrive in Grindelwald in Switzerland on day seven, they will take on a two-day bonus challenge in which they aim to climb two of the country’s iconic mountain passes at Meiringen and Interlaken.

They are due to cover 1,400 kilometres in total, including 15,000 metres of climbing, roughly 11 times the height of Ben Nevis.

The group are completing the ride in aid of ManUp and are aiming to raise awareness and funds for the men’s mental health charity.

Ryan told the Chronicle: “Mental health affects so many people, yet many men still find it difficult to talk openly about how they are feeling or seek support when they need it.

“Through this challenge, we hope to encourage more conversations around mental health while raising funds for a charity that provides vital support to those who need it.

“It will undoubtedly be one of the toughest challenges any of us have undertaken, but we believe the cause is worth every mile.

“We have spent months training and preparing for the challenge and are incredibly grateful for the support we have already received from local businesses, friends and family.

“We hope our journey helps raise awareness of men’s mental health and inspires others to start conversations that could make a real difference.”
