A WHOLE host of Barnsley residents have been recognised in their own right for the King’s Birthday Honours.

Judy Holling - a former Proud of Barnsley winner - has received a British Empire Medal.

Judy, from Dodworth, has dedicated her life to helping others.

In her over 40-year fundraising career, Judy has achieved exceptional and memorable feats, showcasing her dedication to supporting her local community and beyond.

As a long-term volunteer and fundraiser, not only does Judy lend her time, but she has raised thousands of pounds for worthy causes across the years.

Judy officially opened Barnsley Hospice’s Retail Hub in 2020, in the wake of six of its shops being forced to close.

All proceeds from the hub’s sales go towards funding the Hospice, furthering Judy’s legendary status in fundraising.

She said: “It was a real shock.

“It is no exaggeration to say that without Sharon, DIAL simply wouldn’t exist as we know it.

“Having celebrated her extraordinary 40-year milestone with DIAL last year, being awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) truly is the perfect tribute to her lifetime of dedication.”
