Former Wednesday striker Marcus Tudgay says tomorrow’s derby is the perfect game for Barnsley after their poor run.

Tudgay, 29, scored 52 goals in 211 appearances in five years at Hillsborough and has netted twice in five games since joining Barnsley on loan from Nottingham Forest last month.

He told the Chronicle: “It is a very good game for us to have.“A win in a big local derby will be  a big boost which could hopefully lead to us pushing up the table.

“It is a very important game for both clubs. They both need the three points. A derby game just seems to flick and switch in you and you find yourself running a bit faster and tackling a bit harder.

“I personally love derbies and I always get my family to come to them and watch me play.”

Tudgay has vowed not to celebrate against Wednesday and says he has a lot of respect for his former club. He said: “My career really blossomed at Wednesday.“I have a lot of good memories of my time there and the fans are tremendous. I have had a lot of messages from them on Twitter this week saying things like: ‘Don’t score too many against us.”
