FAMILIES in Barnsley will be able to enjoy discounted attractions and meals out with the launch of the government’s ‘Great British Summer Savings’ scheme.

Ahead of the upcoming school holidays, VAT has been temporarily slashed on kids’ menu meals, children’s cinema and theatre tickets, and tickets for attractions like soft play, adventure centres and theme parks this summer.

In addition, children aged between five and 15 years old will be able to travel free on local bus services throughout August - making it easier and more affordable for people to get out and about.

This will help families enjoy weekend treats, days out and small plans that make life enjoyable during the cost of living squeeze, while supporting the businesses that depend on summer footfall.

The scheme - which started yesterday - will run until September 1 and comes on top of the government’s wider support to help families with the cost of living.

Barnsley North MP Dan Jarvis said: “I’m delighted that families across Barnsley will benefit from the government’s Great British Summer Savings scheme.

“We know that many households are still feeling the pressure of the cost of living, and the school holidays can be an expensive time for parents.

“That’s why these discounts on meals out, attractions and travel will make a real difference.”
