Barnsley are closing in on the signing of forward Amani Richards from fellow League One club Leicester City, the Chronicle understands.

The 21-year-old forward came through the Chelsea academy then spent a year at Arsenal before joining Leicester in 2022.

The former England under 16s player’s only senior appearances were a brief loan at Exeter City in 2024 for whom he played six times in League One and scored once.

It is unclear at this stage whether the deal will be loan or permanent.

He is thought to be able to play as a striker and on the wing so would add some depth up front for the Reds whose only striker in the first team squad Leo Farrell is 20 and has never started a game for the club.

The Reds have also been linked with full-back Tyrese Noslin.
