Stephen Dawson says he was lucky not to get injured again on Saturday after he jubilantly celebrated with the away fans at MK Dons.

Dawson, who injured his foot against Ipswich last month, was amongst the 3,700 vocal Barnsley fans behind the goal in Milton Keynes.

He told the Chronicle: “I had six people jump on me when Daggers scored and I jumped on a few myself. It’s a good job the ankle’s better or I could have done more damage!

“It was so loud in there you couldn’t hear yourself speak. I saw the emotion the fans go through and I really enjoyed it. The Barnsley fans were singing, dancing and jumping all over each other. It was a great atmosphere. A lot of the fans didn’t recognise me because they looked like they’d had a lot to drink!”

Fans’ favourite Dawson hopes to be back in contention for next month’s FA Cup tie against Manchester City.

He said: “There’s a real buzz around the place at the minute and I can’t wait to get back. I’d like to think I’ll be back in training for the City game – imagine what it will be like to play against the champions of England.
