THE future of a village pub hangs in the balance after councillors considering a planning application decided they needed to see the site for themselves.

Some local residents have reacted angrily to the plans to demolish the Rock Inn in Green Moor and replace it with a residential development.

Members of Barnsley council’s planning board voted on Tuesday to defer a decision on the proposals for a site visit next month.

Officers had recommended the application be refused because they felt extra housing in the village would place heavy reliance on private car use to access shops, schools and other services.
