A Royston motorcyclist has completed a gruelling journey of more than 2,000 miles - with the help of a toy monkey.

Bob Woodcock of Buckingham Way, travelled from Royston to Land's End then John O' Groats before returning to the village.

He clocked up 2,005 miles on his 21-year-old Triumph bike in aid of BIADS - Barnsley Independent Alzheimer's and Dementia Support, and Barnsley Hospice.

Bob is a volunteer at the BIADS charity shop in Royston and was met with cheers and balloons from staff in Royston on Wednesday.

He also volunteers for Barnsley Hospice but unfortunately his Barnsley Hospice flag got lost somewhere on the M6.

Bob, 59, said it mainly rained during his six-day trip, but the bad weather had not dampened his spirits.

Boris the monkey was strapped to the back of his bike and the trusty companion certainly made an impression on their travels.

"Boris is a babe-puller," Bob joked. "Everywhere I went the girls came up to me and chatted about Boris."

And British engineering meant his bike did not pack in half way through.

"If anything it's me that needs a service," Bob said.

"I'm aching a little bit; those last 100 miles, my hip, my back and my right leg were hurting but it's been great."

It is the second time Bob has undertaken the trip, raising about £700 for Help For Heroes in May 2011.

And he plans to ride a similar route for charity next year, roping other bikers in to join him.
