DODWORTH ARLFC welcomed Huddersfield team Moldgreen to the Welfare Ground on Saturday and despite the low score, spectators were treated to a thrilling encounter. The game began with outstanding defensive displays from both sides, with each team using the workhorses in the forwards. The deadlock was eventually broken on 25 minutes when Dodworth’s Gareth Duckett crashed over to make it 4–0, a scoreline that was to remain unchanged until the last 10 minutes of the game. At that stage, the game began to change from a fierce battle down the middle to a scrappy dogfight with a couple of players being shown cards from the referee. This change in discipline pathed the way for the visitors to pull back two tries and take all the points. After a hard-fought game Dodworth were unlucky not to hold on to the lead and had to settle for a 10-4 defeat. Joe Atkinson was the man of the match with the 3-2-1 points being spread equally throughout the side. Dodworth’s next fixture is at Greetland All Rounders tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Hoyland Vikings gained their first win at Undercliffe for several years, winning 36-28 in their Pennine League, Division Three match. Mitchel Stringer's return helped influence the Vikings, although the result was always in the balance until the last ten minutes. A Brian Kindres try, goaled by Gareth Davies, saw Hoyland take an early lead but the home side hit back with four tries, none of which were converted, to gain a 16-6 advantage. Stringer kicked through down the right flank for Stuart Jones to gather and pull a try back, again converted by Davies, who then picked a gap to touchdown and put Vikings ahead. The same player added the goal. Just after half-time a breakaway try gave the home side the lead again but as time went on Vikings' superior fitness began to show. Phil Hough crashed over from a set piece; Stringer goaled from the touchline and a few minutes later, Ben Fairfax found a gap to score. Stringer added the conversion. Late in the game Kris Reekie gained a try from a well-worked move and Stringer added his third goal before the home side scored a late consolation try. Hoyland entertain Selby Warriors tomorrow.
