Lyndsey Woodger got an extra treat on her visit to the Experience Barnsley museum and discovery centre at the town hall this week – being the 40,000th visitor through the doors.
Accompanied by her two-years-old son, Nathan, Lyndsey, who lives in Barnsley town centre was presented with a certificate entitling her to a meal for two at the Experience Barnsley cafe, a £10 voucher for the visitor centre and a goody bag by Coun Roy Miller.
Lyndsey said: “This is a return visit for us; I just thought I’d pop in as I was in town picking Nathan up from nursery.
“Nathan loves listening to Agadoo on the listening posts as well as having a good dig about in the archaeological dig site in the Making History gallery.”
The number of people visiting the museum, which opened at the end of June, has already exceeded all expectations as the original target was to get 10,000 people through the doors per month.
It would seem that the people of Barnsley and further afield have taken Experience Barnsley to their hearts as it is now the second most popular tourist destination in the borough, just being pipped to the top spot by the RSPB Old Moor Wetland Centre at Broomhill.
