SHOP owners have expressed concern about congestion in Hoyland town centre after an ambulance answering a 999 call was held up in traffic.

The vehicle was stuck on Market Street for up to five minutes on Saturday afternoon after a bus was blocked from turning into King Street by a parked van. Traffic built up along Market Street and up West Street. It only got moving again after the bus driver left his vehicle and went looking for the owner of the van.

It was the second time within the hour traffic had come to a standstill because a bus could not manoeuvre through parked vehicles. In the first incident two cars parked outside Rhythm and Booze blocked the bus turning onto King Street.

The street is yellow lined but wardens are scarce and parked cars often carry disabled badges.
