Barnsley College is sponsoring the Young Apprentice category at this year's Proud of Barnsley Awards.

College principal Colin Booth said: "The Proud of Barnsley Awards is a fantastic way to honour the unsung heroes in our communities. We are delighted to be sponsoring the Young Apprentice category and I am very much looking forward to hearing the inspiring stories of this year's nominees."

Rated outstanding by Ofsted, Barnsley College offers more than 300 courses including vocational, A Levels, part-time and apprenticeships providing students with a range of study options.

The college's Old Mill Lane campus on Church Street houses an array of fully-equipped classrooms, workshops, IT and learning resources.

Many of the facilities, such as the kitchens used by catering students and the TV, radio and recording studios are industry standard, giving learners a real taste of what it's like to work in these fields. The college also has a working farm, dedicated sixth form college, sports academy, theatre and a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) centre.

Barnsley College also supports Barnsley's Apprenticeship Pledge. Backed by the One Barnsley business group, the Pledge is a commitment made by Barnsley employers to work towards recruiting 2.5 per cent of their workforce in Apprenticeship positions. The pledge is expected to provide over 500 Apprenticeship jobs for Barnsley.
