THE new magazine “Memories of Barnsley” is due to go on sale on December 8.
The first issue includes articles on the Public Hall Disaster of 1908; the old tramways in Barnsley which were closed in the 1930s; Brian Elliott’s memories of the Theatre Royal; the Munic air disaster in which two Barnsley-born Manchester United players lost their lives; the late great Charlie Williams and a pictorial feature about Darton, past and present.
There are also nostalgic pieces featuring memories of Pogmoor Feast and the real Tom Treddlehoyle; going to the cinema in the 1950s; the town centre drinking club KGH and the retired traffic bobby Bill Harber.
The magazine is lavishly illustrated throughout with photographs supplied by Old Barnsley, and features extracts from the Barnsley Chronicle archives going back over 150 years.
The magazine will be available at the Barnsley Chronicle offices, Church Street, local supermarkets, and all newsagents which sell the Barnsley Chronicle, price £2.50.
