TWO cars exploded in a quiet residential street.
Jeff and Sharon Smith, of Meadow Field View, were in bed on Monday morning when they were awoke by the blasts. An electrical fault had caused Mr Smith's Citroen Picasso to burst into flames which set his wife's Citroen C3 alight.
Mr Smith said the Picasso’s handbreak cable melted and the car rolled forward spreading the fire to their detached garage.
He said: “It’s a nightmare but it could have been worse, fifteen minutes later I’d have been driving the car.”
He tried to rescue his motorbike from the blazing garage but fled when the roof went up in flames.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 4.55am. They saved the bike but the total damage was estimated at £25,000. The cars were written off and the garage has structural damage. The drive will need re-laying.
