RAM raiders smashed through the door of a supermarket and ripped the cash machine off the wall.
A white van was driven into the Premier supermarket in Barugh Green at about 3.20am yesterday.
Four masked men were seen going into the store. Police said they drove off towards West Yorkshire and believe a second vehicle was involved in the raid.
Detectives were yesterday investigating and talking to the shop's owners. It was not known how much had been stolen.
There have been a spate of ram raids and armed raids in Barnsley including at New Lodge post office, Nationwide Building Society, Eldon Street, and at Houghton Road post office, Thurnscoe. A spokesman said it was too early to link the latest theft to the others.
