A SAILOR is celebrating this week after completing her training at HMS Raleigh.
Royal Navy warfare specialist Sarah Baker, 17, of Bank End attended the Royal Navy's top training academy in October to complete eight weeks of training to turn her from a civvie into a sailor.
Over eight weeks she learnt seamanship, fire-fighting, weapons training and teamwork.
Sarah, a gardener before joining the navy, says she joined up to see the world and get a good career with lots of challenges.
One of the highlights of her training was the naval military training which taught her how to handle and fire an SA80 assault rifle.
“I have really enjoyed all of my training,” she said, “ It feels so brilliant to know that I have completed the course and passed out of HMS Raleigh.”
The former Holgate School pupil will now go on to HMS Collingwood near Portsmouth to train for her career.
