A MASSIVE bird of pray which could kill a cat or small dog was on the loose yesterday.

The harris hawk - which has a five foot wingspan and stands almost half a metre tall - escaped from its aviary at the back of the Milton pub, Elsecar, between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Landlord and owner Phil Hickling said: “It needs to be found because it is a danger to small animals. It’s a hunting bird and it would have no problem with a small kitten or rabbit.”

The cage's safety swivel appeared to have come loose. It may have been opened deliberately. It was last seen on a garage roof on Armroyd Lane, Elsecar, on Monday afternoon. Wanted posters have been put up.
