BARNSLEY Schoolboys under 15s completed their Yorkshire Trophy fixtures in some style, seeing off Leeds 3-0 at Cudworth’s Dorothy Hyman Stadium. Ryan Turner grabbed the opener, driving in from long range, before Matthew Reynolds made it 2-0 at half-time following a jinking run and confident finish. Goalkeeper Ryan Tinkler staked his claim for a regular spot with a string of fine saves, while Daniel Capper made sure of a comfortable win with Barnsley’s third goal. Barnsley are now in second spot behind York. They now have to wait until third-placed Middlesbrough take on unbeaten York to see who plays in the Trophy or Plate competitions. Meanwhile, Barnsley under 14s overcame their Leeds counterparts 3-2 at home. The town team were quickly into their stride and took the lead via a seven-man move fit to grace any game. Jansen Berry, Arran Tate, Kyle Shirt, Matthew Thornton, Daniel Saxon and Matthew Roberts were all involved before Tom Copping coolly slotted home. However, Leeds levelled with a rocket shot that gave ’keeper Daniel Rafiq no chance. Rob Oldham restored Barnsley’s lead from the penalty spot and Berry made it 3-1 early in the second period, following good work from Moxon and Roberts. From then on it was backs to the wall for the young Reds as Leeds surged forward, pulling a goal back to make it 3-2. However, Barnsley held on, with Sam Bedford, Zach Lycett and Arran Tate impressing, along with ’keeper Rafiq. The latter pair shared the man of the match award.
