THE eyes of military personnel from across Europe were on two Barnsley soldiers when they joined military personnel from 12 nations on a multi-national exercise in the Ukraine.

Trooper Ryan Green and Lance Corporal Matthew Kean were part of a 40-strong deployment from B Squadron, the Light Dragoons that deployed to the Ukraine to take part in the NATO led exercise.

Almost 1,000 pieces of weaponry, hundreds of combat vehicles and several military aircraft were involved in the exercise.

For Trooper Ryan Green, 21, from Worsbrough, this was his first deployment overseas.

"I joined the Light Dragoons because it was my local Regiment," he said. "I would watch them when they paraded through Barnsley."

Lance Corporal Matthew Kean, 22, from Goldthorpe thought the exercise was a great training opportunity.

"I've been on exercise in Canada and Kenya before, but this was the first time I've been on a multi-national exercise with other countries. It was great and a good opportunity for the new lads who have recently joined the Regiment," he said.
