Ten man Barnsley lost a lead in a 2-1 defeat at Peterborough United on Saturday.

Devante Cole gave the Reds the lead with an excellent finish on 16 minutes but Conor Washington levelled right at the end of the first half following an error by Ryan Williams. Marcus Maddison's superb 30-yard free-kick put the Posh 2-1 up on 69 minutes then James Bailey was sent for two yellow cards.

Danny Wilson kept the side that beat Bradford City 3-1 on Sunday but they never got anywhere near those performance levels against the second-placed Posh.

The Reds got the perfect start when, after receiving a fine pass from Luke Berry, James Bree floated a cross in for Cole who volleyed home brilliantly past former Barnsley 'keeper Ben Alnwick.

The hosts almost levelled three minutes later when Conor Washington's low 20-yard shot thudded against the base of the right post.  Washington eventually netted from a similar position on the stroke on half-time after Williams gifted Peteborough possession on the edge of the Reds box.

The Posh started the second half in control and Jon Taylor's cross was clawed out by Ross Turnbull who then denied the same player when he was played through one-on-one.

Turnbull was eventually beaten when Maddison curled a tremendous effort into the top left corner.  Bailey had been booked for giving away the free-kick that led to the goal then committed a similar challenge on Maddison on 77 minutes and received a second yellow.

Martin Cranie almost scored an own goal from a corner but Turnbull kept it out impressively then Washington scuffed an effort when clean through. Turnbull again denied Maddison late on but the Reds were beaten.
