A FORMER boxer paralysed by a rare illness while in Thailand is expected to finish his first course of treatment on Saturday.

Craig Lindley, 35, of Hoyle Mill, has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome - where the body's immune system attacks the nervous system - after collapsing on New Year's Day.

Friends and family are now rallying around to raise money for his care - which has already cost more than £40,000.

His brother Karl, who is with him in Bangkok, said Craig believed he had purchased travel insurance through an internet comparison website. But he can find no documents or payments on bank statements and believes the transaction may not have gone through.

Craig is conscious in hospital in Bangkok where tests and treatments have already cost £17,000.
