JOBS have been safeguarded at two care homes after a family-run firm bought them up for £1.2 million.

Chapel View and Field View homes, which neighbour each other on Spark Lane, Mapplewell, have been bought by Panaceon Healthcare Ltd.

Since taking over, Panaceon is already making improvements for its 49 residents by installing Wi-Fi and organising 'silver surfer' training sessions so residents can keep in touch with relatives over the internet using tablet computers.

Dr Keval Patel, a director of Panaceon, said: "Lots of people live away from their kids now, and their grandchildren, and it's very difficult in this modern, time-strapped world for people to visit.

"A way around that is if people have the facilities to do things like Skype (online video chat)."
