CUDWORTH councillors are to try to preserve parts of a school when it is eventually sold off to developers.

It is expected the Pontefract Road Primary School site will be sold for a housing and residential development after closure in July.

The building would have celebrated its 100th birthday in November this year and Couns Steve Houghton, Charlie Wraith and Joe Hayward want some of it to be incorporated into any new development.

They plan to talk to the planning department and any potential developers about the possibilities of retaining some of the school. Most of the old Huddersfield Road girls' high school in Barnsley was saved when redevelopment took place there.
