THIS little dog is lucky to be alive after she was found cowering under a car with a horrific gaping wound to her neck.

It's not yet clear how the cockapoo got the injury but RSPCA inspector Keira Benham said the wound had such clean edges, the dog's neck could have been deliberately cut, or the injury could have been caused by wire, possibly a snare or tether.

Insp Benham said it is one of the worst injuries she has seen in her 14 year career.

The young dog was spotted by a member of the public cowering under a car on Bradberry Balk Lane, Wombwell, last Wednesday.

The adorable pooch underwent surgery to stitch the wound last Thursday. She has been clipped and is now with a foster carer.

Insp Benham wants to hear from anyone who recognises this dog and can tell her who her owner is to contact 0300 123 8018.
