WELLGATE Primary School teaches the importance of ‘caring for others’, says Ofsted. The Mapplewell school has been praised this month by Ofsted for the way it ‘helps pupils grow into reasonable young people’. An inspection in January rates the school overall as ‘satisfactory’ and highlights the leadership of recently appointed headteacher Carol Kirkman. It says: “The headteacher provides determined leadership of good quality and has done a lot in a year to underpin the raising of standards.” The school is also commended on pupils’ good behaviour and because children are rewarded when they achieve. The inspectors have recommended areas for improvement which include improving the standards of writing and ensuring effective management and leadership for some aspects of the school’s work. Mrs Kirkman said: “The school knows itself well and our Ofsted report reflects this. It has acknowledged the high levels of care and guidance we give to the children and the continued drive to improve standards.”
