THE finishing touches have been added to a war memorial in a Wombwell community garden.
Engraved plaques have completed the memorial in the Unicorn Gardens, on Blythe Street, which is also now accessible for mobility scooter users. The memorial is dedicated to those who lost their lives during conflicts in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Organiser Garth Heyworth said: "We didn't quite have enough money to buy plaques, but through Berneslai Homes' charity fund and the Community First fund they have helped out to complete the memorial and lower the curb.
"I am pretty pleased, it will look even better when the trees start sprouting and growing in the future."
The six fruit trees were planted by Wombwell councillors, school pupils and representatives from the Adult Training Centre and Royal British Legion.
Garth said there are roughly eight to ten plots available in the gardens for people to use. For more information, contact him on 750136.
