PENISTONE schoolgirl Sophie Daniels is hitting the right notes as she aims for singing stardom. The 11-year-old, of Tennyson Close, proved she is in tune with success at the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival, held last week in Huddersfield Town Hall. She won the first prize trophy in the girls’ vocal solo class and came second in the junior musical theatre class for her age group, impressing judges with her renditions of The Sound of Music and A Long Time Ago. “I was excited but really nervous and shaking before I went in, but as soon as I stood up to sing it was ok,” she said, adding that little brother Bradley had used his lucky 50p coin to help her in performances. The Penistone Grammar student, whose idol is teenage songstress Hayley Westenra, has got a place with the National Youth Choir after singing at local churches St Andrew’s and Springvale since the age of seven.
