BOBBIES on bikes have taken to the Wath-upon-Dearne and Swinton beats to help in the fight against crime.
PC Brett Thompson and PC Paul Hamshaw are being trained in the use of the state-of-the-art mountain bikes which will enable them to get into areas which are inaccessible to cars.
“Now we’ve got bobbies on bikes, as well as bobbies on the beat,” said Sgt Billy Bell of Wath Safer Neighbourhood Team.
They are the first area in the district to make use of the specially equipped mountain bikes and have two, with a possibility of more if the scheme is successful.
Nobody will fail to be alerted to a crime when the very loud siren is activated and each bike is also fitted with blue flashing lights.
