Lee Johnson has submitted a list of transfer targets to the Barnsley board, saying 'most of my hard work is done on that front now'.
The Reds head coach has also revealed that he wants to bring in three strikers this summer with Sam Winnall currently the only frontman at the club. Johnson is hoping to recruit up to 12 players before next season starts and is targeting every position as he looks to turn a team that just finished 11th in League One into a side that can challenge for promotion.
"We've been looking at potential signings for next season since I arrived at the club," Johnson told the Chronicle.
"But obviously things have stepped up a bit this week with the last season finishing and us deciding who we will offer contracts to.
"It's a different structure to what I have experienced at my last club Oldham. I have submitted a list of players to the board and most of my hard work is done on that front now.
"The club will now try to negotiate deals for those players within our budget. We will definitely miss out on some but I am confident we can make some very exciting signings. We have looked at statistics to identify the best players at our level in every position and then sent scouts to watch them.
"It's not just 'who does Lee Johnson know?' We have a head of recruitment Brian Young and a scouting network."
