THERE was no doubt that the Princess Royal enjoyed meeting the long service horses on her visit to the Riding for the Disabled’s Mexborough group on Tuesday.
Dougal, 21, and Shetland pony Smurf, who is over 40 -years- old, received long-service awards and a rosette was presented to TC, 28. All the animals at the stables are rescue ponies and are cared for by owner Jane Hemingway and the many young people who help to ‘muck out’ as well as learn to ride.
One of the special needs riders, Hayley Kaine,14, of Brampton, presented the Princess Royal with a bouquet.
Glebe Field Stables has been working with riders with special needs for 30 years and her royal highness presented each of the riders and young people who help at the stables with a blue and gold rosette.
