AN ELDERLY Billingley widow will soon have her gates removed and fears she will struggle to look after her dog.

Gladys Haigh, 84, of Well Lane Court, put the small wrought iron gates up nine years ago to allow Shitzsu Bobby to play in the garden without getting away.

Mrs Haigh said: “There isn’t much for me to do up here. I need Bobby as my companion.

“I am very nervous as it is but I manage without help from the doctor. If my gates were taken away I would be so worried about Bobby and would need the doctor then.”

The Yorkshire Metropolitan Housing Association property is one of several ground floor dwellings with a path all the way around. There are two gates either side of Mrs Haigh’s back door.
